Revelation,4;4 “Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the Seven Spirits who are before His Throne.” Jesus says “I am the Light of the world.” In the natural world, the light of the sun can be divided up into the 7 colors of the rainbow and in like manner, the Light of the Son of God can be divided up into the Wisdom of the 7 Spirits of God. One might ask why are things this way? It can not be otherwise because that is who God is. He is “Manifold Wisdom.” Be thankful you have the privilege to grow in the abundant knowledge of Gods “Manifold Wisdom” of an orderly creation in the natural world and in the spiritual world. There is so much to rejoice about and after all, it is “The joy of the Lord that is your strength”. And of these riches, there is no end! In these Truths one should see the orderly pattern of Gods work and appreciate even more, the work that He is doing in those who believe. The spiritual meanings to the colors of the rainbow are summed up in the following letter:
The Seven Spirits of God are actually the One Holy Spirit manifesting Himself in the sevenfold ministry of Jesus Christ to mankind. They are symbolized by the seven colors of the rainbow that is over the Throne of God as depicted in the book of Revelation and also symbolized by other things throughout the Bible. The work of the Seven Spirits of God are the whole work of Christ here in the earth.
The meanings of their colors are as follows: The first color of the rainbow is red and it symbolizes the Spirit of Grace because red is the color of blood. Grace is given because Jesus Christ shed His blood on the cross as the Atonement for our sins that so that we might receive the Grace of God and become righteous before God. This is something that we ourselves can not do on our own. Our sins have crucified/rejected Him but He in order to show how good He is, returns mercy rather than the final judgement, so that we might become His children by the Power of Grace bestowed as a free gift. When Grace has come into a life , that person comes to the beginning of True Life. Jesus calls this New Life, “Born Again” by the Power of His Spirit.
This term “Born Again” is the name given to the Living Work of the Holy Spirit in a believer and this Work of His is called the Spirit of Supplication. The Work of the Spirit of Supplication is to pray for us so that we can become righteous spiritual being unto God and so partake of His divine nature. The Spirit of Supplication is symbolized by the color orange, which is the second color of the rainbow. Orange, because it is the color of the hot fire that consumed the animal sacrifices that were written of in the Old Testament, which was but a symbol of the Fire written of in the New Testament. The Fire of The Holy Spirit today consumes the excesses of our fleshly nature as it is written of in Matt.3;11 ” He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire.” These two, the Spirit of Grace and Supplication are written of in the book of Zechariah, 12;10, ” And I will pour on the House of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of Grace and Supplication.”
Supplication is the pleadings of the Spirit to God and acts like a wind in our spirit that Jesus talked about in the book of John, 3;8, “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound thereof , but you cannot tell from where it comes or where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” The Spirit of Supplication attunes us spiritually to receive the Knowledge, Wisdom, Understanding and Council of the Lord. Thus it is written, “I will pray with the Spirit [of Supplication] and I will pray with understanding also.”
To pray with understanding one needs the Spirit of Truth which is the 3rd manifestation of the Spirit of God and symbolized by the 3rd color of the rainbow which is yellow. Yellow is the color of pure gold that does not rust, of great value, and everlasting. We find much that is written of concerning gold that was used to adorn the temple of God that was built in the Old Testament era. In the book of John,16;13 it is written, “However when He the Spirit of Truth has come, He will guide you into all Truth.” This Spirit of Truth is also written of in John, 1;17 “For the law was given through Moses but Grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ.” Those people who lived in the Old Testament era could only know God by the written Word of God and they lived it the best they could but with the fallen human spirit. They were not Born Again of the Holy Spirit and so could not know Him, Spirit to Spirit. They could not know Him according to Truth but rather according to the letter of the laws of God. Truth is the supernatural spiritual voice [not audible] of God spoken to the renewed human spirit. Truth comes as the Word of knowledge, Wisdom, Council, and Understanding. Or in other words, the Mind of Christ. Many have the Spirit but have not grown as they should in the Mind of Christ for lack of discipline to study the Word of God and grow thereby. Therefore it is written to encourage, “Grow in Grace and in the Knowledge of the Lord.” It is the knowledge of the Lord that will give to you the greater and firmer foundation then when you first believed! Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice and follow Me.” The voice of the Lord can come in great Power and feelings that conveys Truth but mostly through the “still small” voice that conveys Truth to those who are attentive. And there are also visions and dreams that also impart the Knowledge of the Lord, but they are few in number. However, to depend on physical feelings alone is a sure and big mistake because we walk by Faith in the Word of Truth, however revealed, and not by the feelings of the flesh nor the sight of the eyes as He has said in MK 8:12 “And He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, Why does this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given to this generation.”
The 4th Spirit of God or in other words for those who find this concept hard to understand, the 4th manifestation of the work of the one Spirit, is the Spirit of Holiness. This is written of in the book of Romans, 1;4 “”Declared to be the Son of God with power by the Spirit of Holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.” The resurrection proves that He is Holy! The resurrection of Christ is symbolized in creation by the color green which is the 4th color of the rainbow! Green like unto an emerald, is also the color of the throne of God which is written of in the book of Revelation, 4;3. The spring time of creation displays all green things to prove that the death of winter has ended and that the resurrection unto new life has begun. Can you not see the meaning of the scripture more clearly now that says ” The very nature of God is made known through the creation because the visible things of creation speak to us about His spiritual nature.” And so it is no wonder that Jesus said in the book of John, 3;12 ” If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about Heavenly things.” When one has the Spirit, great Truths can to be learned by the things that we see and also by what we hear. Many great things you have already learned from the Bible but there are also many great things to be learned by observing nature. Therefor it is written, “If any man is in Christ Jesus, he is a new creation and behold all things become new.”, because of the spiritual lessons they tell of. A Christian more than any one, should more and more see spiritual Truths hidden in the creation and rejoice evermore! Now is a good time to explain the meaning of the great Truth written of in Revelation, 22;2 “The Leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations.” In nature, green leaves take in the pollutions of the air and in return give us oxygen that will sustain life.” In like manner but spiritually speaking, Jesus takes the pollutions of our sin and in return gives us the very “Air” of Heaven which is Holiness.
Holiness is a state of being not of works as Jesus said “Be you Holy for I am Holy.” and He said in John 15;4 ” Abide in Me, and I in you, as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” The fruit of the Spirit however, are the works of Christ in you and through you because you abide in Him. So then, the state of being Holy in Him will lead to the righteous acts of the Spirit through you so that the works are not of your own efforts but of His Righteousness!
The acts of the Spirit are called the Fruit of the Spirit and they are listed in the book of Galatians, 5;22,23 as follows, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” These all add up to the righteous acts of the Lord in us and through us and if these things are not evident then your faith is vain because it is written, “faith without works is dead.”
The fruit of the Spirit falls into the category of the “Spirit of Life”. The Spirit of Life is symbolized by the bright blue of the sky which is the 5th color of the rainbow signifying that not only is He priest over the whole earth but as the priests of the Old Testament wore the blue garment so in like manner Christ had on the “Spirit of Life” as an inner garment of the Spirit making Him superior to those priests that came before him who could only with blue cloth symbolize the Spirit of Life!. The Spirit of Life is written of in the book of Romans, 8;2 “For the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. Love sets us free from hate, joy sets us free from depression and sorrow, peace sets us free from worry and so on it goes with the other fruits of the Spirit, so that each is the cure for its opposing evil. The Spirit of Life [The Fruit] in Christ is the cure for all the ills of mankind. Therefore it is written, “If we have been justified by His death how much more shall we be saved by His Life!” When the green leaves [Holiness] of a tree appear it will soon be that the fruit of the tree [Spirit of Life] will appear. So it is in the spiritual life. Therefore pray that you might abide and bring forth Fruit, for it is your very Life Eternal.
When the Fruit of the Spirit are manifest in a person’s life then that person is truly called by God, a son of God even as it is written of in the book of Romans, 8;14,15, ” For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the Sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of Adoption by whom we cry ” Abba Father.” This is the sixth category of the Spirit of God and it is symbolized by the dark blue of the rainbow. This color is called indigo in our modern language. Indigo has a touch of red in it and lots of blue. and so the meaning is quite clear. The red represents the Spirit of Grace that comes by the Atonement/Blood [His suffering] and the blue represents the Spirit of Life in Christ! Therefor, we have been adopted into the Life of Christ with sufferings and are now made worthy to be called sons.
Now because of all this work of the Holy Spirit in the other six, the most beautiful manifestation of the Spirit, the Spirit of Glory, rests upon you. The Spirit of Glory literally means, THE BEAUTY OF HIS CHARACTER. In the natural world, glory means the outward beauty of a thing but in the spiritual world Glory means THE BEAUTY OF HIS CHARACTER because character is often times shown by rising above sufferings as did Christ who carried on with dignity even after He was rejected over and over. And so it is written in the book of 1 Peter, 4;14 ” If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of Glory and of God rests upon you.” The Spirit of Glory is symbolized by the color purple as it is written of in the Bible but now it is called violet. Purple has much red [suffering of the cross] softened by blue [ the Spirit of Life] in it to denote that the Life of Christ comes with much suffering. That is why one of the fruit of the spirit is “longsuffering.” This Spirit of Glory is the 7th Spirit of God and completes the work of God. Completeness in Christ is what God is after for mankind! Do you have the work of God in your life? Ask and keep on asking that your Joy might be full because it is your “Heavenly Fathers good pleasure” to give you the Kingdom of Completeness. Amen!
There are some who would say that the seven Spirits of God are the list in Isaiah chapter 11 but if you will notice that in that list, the first is called the Spirit of the Lord but the Spirit of the Lord in and of Himself contains all seven. What comes after that is only six more in the list and 3 of them, knowlege, wisdom, and counsel, are all related in the sense that they all refer to the mind of Christ in various ways. After being born again of the Spirit one must grow in the mind of Christ to experience the best of Christ. Therefore it is written, ” Grow in Grace and in the Knowlege [mind] of Christ.
